Seach for the Norse Impact on the Cultural Landscape Engaging young people in the investigation of the Norse impact on the Cultural Landscape of the catchment. The project uses the theme of the Norse / Viking / Anglo-Scandinavian impact, or probable impact, as a means of involving young people in active outdoor activity in the catchment of Bassenthwaite Lake. They will work with historians, cultural landscape analysts, farmers, foresters and planners to investigate a number of physical structures and traditions, which might be traceable to Norse settlement. Investigating, celebrating and re-training in traditional 'lost' woodland skills. The project will investigate and assemble an archive of former traditional uses of woodlands in the catchment of Bassenthwaite Lake. Local people will be asked to bring their memories and images / pictures to workshops to kick start the project. There will be a series of one to three day training courses (offered each year for 3 years) to inform, raise awareness and begin the process of re-introducing lost skills. |
|
Education and Training In adition to the above projects, various educational activities are taking place with young people, schools and clubs during the life of the project. We will take all opportunities to work with young people to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the Bassenthwaite landscape.
