Dates:
2nd June to 6th July 2008
Number of places: 8
The content revolves around nature conservation and eco-tourism type works undertaken by our partners, the Akrotiri environmental centre. The Akrotiri peninsula near Limassol is occupied by the British Base and Cypriot foresters, notably, Thomas Hatzikyriakou, are developing the nature conservation potential of the peninsula by managing the forest areas close to the sea, constructing trails and other visitor facilities at Fassouri marshes. The emphasis is on sustainable and local solutions to maintaining and improving biodiversity.

Previous placement tasks at Akrotiri:
- Maintenance of birdwatching hides
- Identification of suitable points and routes for trails, birdwatching towers,
educational signs etc, according to our strategic plan for resource education.
- Mapping of the areas that the Sea daffodil is occuring in Ladies mile beach
and proposing of suitable measures to protect it, mainly from visitors in
summer months, since the species is occuring only on sand dunes and its populations
are declining
- Preparation of new worksheets for the schools that are visiting the Centre.
Grampus are also involved with a FREETT training action in Cyprus to create sculpture for a new forest trail. It may be possible to work with other students (from UK & Cyprus) from the Cyprus College of Art, to create and site sculpture.
