FULL Eco-Tourism with Krajina in Eastern Slovakia

Krajina is an organisation with responibility for the development of Eco-Tourism in the Stropkov region of Slovakia. Krajina are currently working in cooperation with many local landowners and National Forest Authorities, to develop a system of Eco-Trails in the Stropkov area in the hope of developing a sustainable rural tourism industry. This work involves a great deal of environmental management and planning providing an excellent experience for students interested in becoming involved in these projects. Krajina are experienced in hosting groups on international trainers, students and have previously cooperated with Grampus under the Leonardo da Vinci scheme and Youth programmes.

The Desire placement will provide the opportunity for environmental or related students to work in a range of conservation, forestry and Ecotourism tasks in Stropkov and the surrounding area. The programme involves the creation and repainting of public footpaths in Stropkov, a two week placement in the High Tatra mountain- reconstructing an educational path, conducting in the planning and management of sustainable environments; including the Poloniny National Park and working with the Slovak Wildlife Society in the Western Tatras. The latter aims to help the long-time survival of endangered and vulnerable species such as the wolf, bear, lynx and chamois along with their habitats in Slovakia by finding sustainable solutions for co-existence with people.
