Training In Contemporary Applications of Traditional European Crafts (TICATEC) - 2008

Various Crafts Placement Dates: 23rd June to 28th July 2008

Placements are for the duration of: 5 weeks

The placement will be hosted in the Slovakian town of Stropkov. Participants will gain experience in a range of traditional skills and crafts by working alongside experienced craft practitioners from the region. The UK group will stay in the town boarding school and will have all meals provided.

The following draft programme has been provided by the host partners:

5 days – marqueterie (inlaid veneers are fitted together to form a design or picture that is then used to ornament furniture) – Secondary Art School in Kezmarok

5 days – woodcarving

3 days – restoration of artistic wooden artefacts

3 days – artistic wirework

3 days – laces done from copper wire

1-2 days – pottery lessons using pottery wheels

3 days – macramé

2 days – weaving by looms (in Michalovce)

3 days – painting of pictures

2 days – cornhusk dollies making
