Training In Contemporary Applications of Traditional European Crafts (TICATEC) - 2008

Textiles in Slovakia

Number of participants: 8

Lacemaking and Textiles Placement Dates: 18th June to 23rd July 2008

Placements Duration: 5 weeks

This placement offers TICATEC participants the opportunity to develop their textiles skills and techniques by working alongside experienced practitioners in the Stropkov region of Slovakia. The hosts of the placement are 'Krajina', a cultural heritage organisation who have received groups of UK students in the past and who have a great deal of experience in arranging placements for overseas visitors.

The skills and techniques which participants will develop include weaving, macrame, crochet and bobbin lace, with optional workshops in pottery and ceramics. In addition to the textiles work, participants will follow a varied cultural programme arranged by the hosts. This will include folk dancing, wine tasting and visits to a range of museums and cultural attractions.

The 2007 textiles placement in Slovakia will include the European Crafts Day celebrations in Kezmarok. The group will also participate in the Stropkov Fair, a cultural celebration of arts, crafts and cultural heritage in the Stropkov region.
