Unlocking Hidden Heritage
Leonardo da Vinci European Pilot Project
The results of the training actions and the benefit of shared European experience and community involvement will be incorporated into case-studies and curriculum.The Unlocking Hidden Heritage Handbook is now available to download 'Discovering the Treasures in our Cultural Landscape' (Low Resolution- File Size: 5mb). Each action within the Unlocking Hidden Heritage Handbook has been translated into the relevant host language and are available on the Language Resources page which can be accessed via the News page (see below).
The Unlocking Hidden Heritage Curriculum Resource Packs are also now available and focus on the practical understanding of cultural landscape and the methods of survey and recording which can be practically taught. Other modules in this curriculum pack focus on the training of specific skills used in the creation of cultural landscape or craft skills and products intrinsic to local landscapes (vernacular architecture, craft products, cultural tradition and local resources).
Project Objectives
'Unlocking Hidden Heritage' is a Leonardo da Vinci Pilot Project which will run a series of interactive training actions to survey, understand and interpret hidden heritage, including re-awakening traditional skills across Europe. The training actions will be hosted by the project partners in the UK (Grampus Heritage), Cyprus (Aktrotiri Environmental Centre), Germany (Dubener Heide Naturpark), Slovakia (Krajina), Ireland (Sylviron), and Iceland (Byggdasafn Arnesinga).
The project aims to develop curriculum for the training of community volunteers and sector professionals alike in the investigation, identification and protection of the cultural landscape. The training actions will all have key and common elements of community interaction and sustainability. They key elements of the activities in each partner country will include: 1) Local Community Engagement, 2) Workshops on identifying critical cultural features, 3) Interactive Archaeological/Topographic Survey, 4) Management and sourcing of sustainable local material to effect protection/enhancement/reconstruction, 5) Traditional Skills Training, 6) Reconstruction and other practical restoration work, 7) Interpretation and sample cultural tourism plan.

Project Actions
