NEW:  PEATS Norway – Boat renovation and restoration in a working  boatyard

Group 1: start in late May or early June 2020 (dates to be confirmed in Febr 2020)

Group 2: Sept/Oct 2020 (dates to be confirmed in June 2020)

PEATS-Application-form

This placement is managed by Jay Allison and Astrid Hogmo of Globe Ed Foundation who is a new partner to Grampus Heritage.  The placement will be based in Gratangen (province Troms, right in the north of Norway). The placement addresses the renovation and restoration of modern and  traditional (wooden) boats. Jobs like stripping, filling, painting and varnishing will be carried out. Wooden and electrical fittings are also to be made or fixed.

The boatyard employ’s between 15-20 staff members (depending on season and work load).

flights from Manchester, London or Edinbrugh (if available): into Evenes-Narvik airport via Oslo

Participants are required to bring suitable work clothes, including sturdy boots (best to bring steel top work boots) and waterproofs.

Students will work from 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday, with an hour for lunch and weekends off.

A hire car is most likely available to this group, at least 2 participants needs to hold a valid full clean UK licence. Please note: Norway has a 0 tolerance towards drink+driving.

accommodation: self-catering accomm. / shared twin rooms in a guesthouse by the water located opposite the boatyard. the house belongs to the boatyard and has 4 bedrooms on the top floor (with air condition heating). One or two of the bedrooms might be taken by other boatyard staff members as external helpers or prfessional come in occasionally. the ground floor is a common space with a pool table, a small sauna etc.

nearest petrol station (combined with a small shop) is in 1.5 miles distance. nearest Supermarket (Spar) in 6 miles distance. next town (40 min drive southwards) is Bjerkvik.

 

 

Funding

The placement is funded by the EU Erasmus + scheme and covers return flights, accommodation, car hire costs and a subsistence allowance.
